The Binghamton women’s swimming and diving team finished fourth overall at the America East Championships this weekend, taking home three gold medals in the process.
On Friday, senior Caitlin Kelly set the America East record in the 50 free event, recording a time of 23.06, which broke the previous record of 23.07, set in 2010. Senior Imani Williams earned her second career individual AE championship, scoring a 262.55 in the one-meter dive.
Binghamton’s 200-meter relay squad of seniors Kelly and Corinne Zotter as well as juniors Selina Ng and Claudia Coccaro earned gold with a time of 1:42.27, defeating conference-champion UMBC’s quartet by just 0.22 seconds. Zotter, for the second consecutive year, earned a silver medal in the 100-meter breast stroke.
In winning, UMBC captured its first America East Championship since 2001. UMBC was followed by New Hampshire, Vermont and then Binghamton. Rounding out the standings in fifth was Maine.
