Following a season-opening loss to Siena, the Binghamton women’s soccer team bounced back for a pair of 1-0 road victories over the weekend.

Freshman forward Michele Galvin scored in the 40th minute to beat Manhattan College on Friday night, capitalizing on a cross pass from sophomore forward Stephani Church. The goal was Galvin’s first as a Bearcat.

Manhattan (1-2) saved six shots to Binghamton’s three, though the Bearcats (2-1) held a 23-12 shot advantage over the Jaspers. Seven of the Bearcats’ shots were on goal, featuring two apiece from Galvin, sophomore midfielder Rebecca Raber and sophomore midfielder Katie Corcoran.

Senior goalkeeper Carrie Martin spent the full duration of the game between the posts to earn the shutout.

On Sunday afternoon, Binghamton and Iona took a scoreless game into overtime, but Church netted the game-winner just 2:53 into the extra period.

Martin recorded five saves en route to her second consecutive shutout, while Binghamton outshot the Gaels (0-3-1) 14-9.

The Bearcats are set to host Lafayette on Friday in their home opener. Play is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
