Binghamton University women’s basketball head coach Nicole Scholl has rounded out her staff with the hiring of Marvin Walker as an assistant coach. The team announced on Wednesday that Walker will join Scholl and assistants Leah Truncale and Sarah Cartmill.

A 1997 graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio, Walker brings a solid pedigree at the high school and college levels. Most recently, Walker served as an assistant women’s basketball coach at Texas’ Trinity University. He has also served as an assistant at San Antonio’s Taft High School, helping the squad to a No. 1 state ranking and a Class 5A state semifinal appearance in 2004.

Though he has held more jobs as an assistant coach, Walker had a head coaching opportunity at St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio from 2005-10. St. Mary’s Hall improved drastically during his tenure, winning just two games in Walker’s first season and combining for 37 victories in his final two.

Walker’s Texas connection could help Binghamton continue to recruit out-of-state talent. The Bearcats currently have just two players from New York on the 2012-13 roster.
