All-American senior Donnie Vinson was named the Colonial Athletic Association Wrestler of the Year for the second consecutive season on Friday. He became the first athlete in league history to sweep the CAA Championship Most Outstanding Wrestler Honors and Wrestler of the Year Honors in back-to-back seasons.
Vinson went undefeated in dual action in his final season as a Bearcat while compiling a 33-3 overall record. He closed out his career atop the program’s all-time win list with 132 total victories.
Vinson defended his individual title at the 2013 CAA Championship. He went 4-2 at the NCAA Championships, collecting the most wins of any CAA athlete and falling one win short of earning All-American Honors for the second straight year.
Vinson is slated to return to the program as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 season as he works toward finishing his master’s degree in student affairs administration.
