The Binghamton University men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons this weekend as they competed at the Princeton/Sam Howell Invitational in Princeton, N.J. on Saturday.
BU’s top performer was sophomore Casey Gilbert, who placed second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.05. He clocked in just ahead of fellow Bearcat and junior Robb Quiller, who finished fourth at 55.49.
Other notable Binghamton men’s performances included two fifth-place finishes. Senior Jesse Fuca ran the 110 hurdles in 15.08 and junior Chris Veney completed the 100 in 11.35.
Freshman Alexis Murray led the way on the women’s side as she placed fourth in the javelin (120-10).
In other action, junior Kaitlin Sullivan and sophomore Ashley AuPont each placed fifth, in the 100 hurdles at 14.95 and the high jump (5-5) respectively.
There was no team scoring for the meet.
Last year, the men’s squad made history as it finished in second place at the America East outdoor track and field championships. It marked the best finish in the program’s history. The women, on the other hand, finished in seventh.
Binghamton is scheduled to head north for the Cornell April Open on Saturday.
The last time the Bearcats competed in Ithaca was last year at the Cornell Big Red Invitational. Though no team scores were kept, then-sophomore Michelle Eberhart won the women’s triple jump while then-junior Nandi Dozier-Lewis placed second.
Action is set to begin at 10 a.m.
