Binghamton track and field participated in the Penn Relays and the Cornell Big Red Invitational this past weekend. Neither meet featured team scoring.
Top men’s finishers for the Penn Relays on Friday included senior John Slaven, who placed second in the Eastern Section Pole Vault with an IC4A-qualifying distance of 16-2 3/4, and classmate Adam Helman, who earned third in the same event with a distance of 15-7.
The women’s top finishers in the same meet were junior Alexis Murray and sophomore Alexx Baum. Murray grabbed fifth in the College Section Triple Jump with an ECAC-qualifying 40-6 1/4, and Baum took seventh in the Eastern Section Triple Jump with a height of 38-8 3/4.
At the Cornell Red Big Invitational on Sunday, Murray returned to action to earn first in the triple jump with another ECAC-qualifying height, just a quarter meter off, at 40-6. Other notable performances came from sophomore Christy DiMichele and freshman Taylor Bates, who tied for third in the pole vault event with 11-8 1/2. Baum also placed again, taking third in the triple jump with a mark of 39-2 1/4, and freshman Tori Schaffer grabbed third in the high jump event with a 5-5 mark.
The Bearcats are set to return to action this weekend at the America East Outdoor Championships, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday at BU’s Track and Field Stadium. First events are set for 10 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.
