Hosting its first match this season, the Binghamton women’s tennis team fell to visiting Fordham, 4-2, on Sunday. The contest was supposed to be held last Saturday but was rescheduled due to weather.
BU (1-3) managed to win only three of the nine matches. Sophomores Alexis Tashiro and Shea Brodsky recorded the first doubles win of the morning, 8-3. Fordham (4-1) secured the remaining pair of doubles, each by a two-point margin (8-6).
The Bearcats finished with two singles winners: sophomore Sara Kohtz and freshman Annie DiMuro. Kohtz’s 6-3, 7-6 (7-1) dominating performance knotted the teams’ scores at two and was the sophomore’s 11th overall win of the season.
After the Rams took another match, DiMuro recorded her second duals win of the season, taking her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.
Fordham took the fourth and fifth singles matches and held a one-set advantage in the sixth set when play was suspended. The final match was left unfinished.
Binghamton has a busy weekend ahead, traveling to compete against three different opponents between Friday and Sunday. Up first is Niagara at 5 p.m. Friday, followed by Buffalo at 1 p.m. Saturday. The road trip will wrap up against Colgate at 12 p.m. Sunday.
