I had trouble following this one because Bryant’s video player wouldn’t load and WNBF’s online feed sporadically filled the air with ads instead of play-by-play, but here’s what I have gleaned from the box score and Twitter.
Binghamton fell 78-56 at Bryant, briefly trailing by 30 points midway through the second half.
The Bearcats simply didn’t have an answer for Dyami Starks early on. The Columbia transfer buried his first six threes and scored all of his 25 points in the first half to help the hosts to a 51-30 halftime lead. From what I heard, it seemed that Starks took advantage of Binghamton’s 2-3 zone. I don’t know if head coach Tommy Dempsey switched defenses or if Starks just cooled off, but the Bulldogs’ leading scorer didn’t inflict any damage in the second half.
As a team, Bryant ultimately shot 27-of-56 (48.2 percent) from the floor and 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) from three. But the Bulldogs hit 20 of their first 32 shots to put the game out of Binghamton’s reach.
The Bearcats, on the other hand, shot just 19-of-52 (36.5 percent) from the floor. Jordan Reed led Binghamton with 15 points and eight rebounds, and Jimmy Gray scored 14 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Rayner Moquete picked up three fouls in the first half and missed all six of his shots, finishing with zero points.
For a positive, Binghamton turned the ball over eight times. Gray, who had nine turnovers against Monmouth, lost the ball twice today.
