The Binghamton University golf team finished in ninth place this weekend at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate.
Heading into today’s final cold and rainy round, the Bearcats sat in ninth place with a score of 595, 19 over par. They shot a final round of 23 over par at 311, their highest 18-hole total of the tournament.
Sophomore Bryce Edmister led Binghamton as he shot a 54-hole total of 4 over par at 220. He had started the tournament with a first-round score of 71, 1 under par. That score tied his career best, which he set at last year’s Seton Hall Invitational.
From there on out, though, he shot second and third-round scores of 73 and 76, respectively, to slip into 18th place with four other golfers. His finish proved to be his third top-20 finish in his short stay at Binghamton.
Junior David Cellura ended the tournament in 25th place at 8 over par with scores of 75, 72 and 77 in each round respectively, for a total score of 224. His second round of 72 tied his career best.
New faces competing for BU included freshman Jack Sedgewick and Josh Holling, a transfer student from Corning Community College. Sedgewick finished in a tie for 46th while Holling finished two shots behind and placed 50th.
Baylor University won the event by a large margin as the second-place team, Texas Christian University (TCU), finished 11 strokes behind.
Last year, Binghamton finished seventh out of 18 schools with a two-day total of 920, improving in each of the tournament’s three rounds. BU was led by then-senior Jake Katz who posted a final round of 1 under par (71) and finished tied for second in the individual standings.
The Bearcats will return to the course next week when they head to College Park, Md. to participate in the Maryland Intercollegiate at Rivermarsh Golf Club.
Play is scheduled to begin on Monday and will continue on Tuesday.
