The Binghamton men’s and women’s track teams hosted the three-team N.Y. Upstate Outdoor Track Challenge on Friday, with the men’s team finishing second and the women third in the event. Cornell took both the men’s and women’s titles.
Binghamton’s men’s team captured five individual titles, with four going to seniors. Seniors Mike Jennings and Jeff Martinez took first in the 400 and 5,000 respectively, while classmates Adam Helman won the javelin and Greg Feathers captured the discus. Sophomore Pat Heikkila was the lone underclassman to finish in first for the BU men’s team, taking the title in the shot put.
Junior Alexis Murray highlighted action on the women’s side, sweeping both of the jump events. Her triple jump distance of 40-2 was ECAC-qualifying, while her mark of 18-7 earned her first in the long jump.
The Bearcats are scheduled to compete at the Penn Relays this Thursday to Saturday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
