After much anticipation, we are proud to present Pipe Dream’s 2016 Sex Issue. We’ve expanded the issue this year, adding content that explores different facets of the information collected. Within these pages you’ll find articles ranging from erotica to proper sexile conduct to the legality of having sex outside of a dorm room. You’ll also find statistics that amused us and stories that left us slack-jawed.
We’ve collected some interesting data about the sex lives of BU students. We were surprised by the range of sex toys that have been tried and an apparent fascination with threesomes: just 11 percent have had them but over 40 percent are interested in pursuing the experience. And as to be expected, some things just never change — tequila will always be the most frequently cited intercourse-inspiring libation.
A bunch of you are stripping down in the digital age and sending out photos baring all. While nude photos are nothing new, many of you are opting to include your faces in the pictures. Maybe some of you are living on the edge, but we hope that if you’re leaving your signature freckles in the photo, you trust the person on the other end to keep it to themselves.
Dating apps seem to be on the rise, with options like Bumble joining the established ranks of Tinder and Grindr. But a majority of students have never hooked up using an app, so students are either serial left-swipers or are opting out altogether.
Bearcats are still going bareback, a subject matter we’ve devoted editorials to in the past. This year, we tried a different approach and got tested ourselves to encourage others to do the same. Many of you say you’re STD-free, but only a small amount are getting tested, and there is not nearly enough condom use happening. And with that in mind, the fact that almost 50 percent are reporting having had at least one pregnancy scare is no longer surprising and becoming downright expected.
A big thank you to all of you who participated and shared stories with us, and we hope you enjoy one of our largest and most comprehensive sex issues yet. They say that size doesn’t matter, but we’re pretty satisfied with the results.
