Those looking to relieve stress through laughter while helping out a good cause may just be in luck.
Binghamton University’s Colleges Against Cancer and American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life have teamed up with professor Ryan Vaughan and sketch comedy group The Pappy Parker Players to raise money for cancer research. The event will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2 in Lecture Hall 2. Tickets will be sold for $3 at the door.
Rebecca Lefkowitz, a senior majoring in philosophy, politics and law, helped organize the event along with Colleges Against Cancer President Melissa Frascella and Emily Tier and Jess Mandell of BU’s Relay for Life chapter.
“We wanted to do something different that we would get a different crowd,” Lefkowitz said. “I think it’s going to be a good turnout. Vaughan has a big following and the Pappys have a good following of their own.”
Vaughan said he was asked by some of his students to help out the cause, but due to scheduling conflicts they created this event instead. Lefkowitz hopes the event will promote Binghamton’s Relay for Life event, which will be held on April 2.
“Since I wasn’t able to go to the Relay event in April, we thought a comedy show with the Pappys would be a great way to raise money and awareness,” Vaughan explained. “The show itself is me doing comedy-type things and The Pappy Parker Players doing their brand of ‘jackasses off their meds’ humor. It should be a night to remember … or at least live down.”
