TUESDAY, OCT. 16, 8:35 p.m. — An 18-year-old female student reported to Binghamton’s New York State University Police that two textbooks had been stolen from her room in Dickinson Community’s Digman Hall, Investigator Patrick Reilly said. The victim was looking for laundry detergent in her room when she noticed the books missing. The victim’s roommate said she didn’t remember anything going on in the room and none of the students’ other valuables were missing. The case is still under investigation and it is unknown if the detergent was ever found.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 17, 12:25 a.m. — Officers returning to their vehicle in Parking Lot S-3 observed two males acting suspiciously, Reilly said. The officers saw the suspects walking towards them, before turning abruptly in another direction and walking away rapidly. The officers asked the suspects what they were doing, and they could detect a strong odor of marijuana. The suspects confessed they had been smoking a joint before throwing it under a car when they saw the officers. The officers found the joint and charged the suspects with unlawful possession of marijuana.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 17, 9:01 a.m. — A 20-year-old male student driving out of the paid lot off of West Drive crashed into a light pole on his way out, Reilly said. Officers driving on West Drive observed the student make a right turn coming out of the lot, jumping the curb of the sidewalk and hitting the pole. The pole fell, causing damage to the car, but the driver was not hurt. The student was given tickets for not having insurance and driving on the sidewalk.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 17, 3:00 p.m. — A 21-year-old male Sodexo student employee reported to University police that a French book had been stolen from his locker in the Hinman College Dining Hall, Reilly said. He had placed his book in a bag in his locker, but the locker was unsecured. The case is being followed up on by the dining hall staff.
