The Binghamton University Events Center will host more than just J. Cole and Flosstradamus this semester. On Oct. 26, it will hold comedy nerds, their family members and comedian Demetri Martin.
The stand-up comic’s “A Night With Demetri Martin,” will hit campus Saturday of Family Weekend. Doors open at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m. An opening act has not been confirmed. The show costs $13 for students, $20 for the public and $25 for floor reserve across the board.
Mariana Moriello, vice president of programming for the Student Association, said she is excited to bring a range of acts to campus.
“It’s great to have variety,” Moriello said. “My goal is to try to bring many different fun acts so by the end of the year there’s something for everyone.”
Demetri Martin is best known for his unconventional stand-up comedy acts, which include songs, a giant pad of paper and his endless musings about society. His jokes touch on topics from Hummer drivers to his dad’s friend’s ponytail and everything in between. Martin has also written two books, “This Is a Book” and a collection of drawings, “Point Your Face at This,” which came out last year. He also starred in the film “Taking Woodstock.”
This is the second consecutive Family Weekend that will feature a comedian, following last year’s performance by Lewis Black.
“We’re extremely excited to bring another comedian for Family Weekend,” Moriello said. “This time he’s both funny and appropriate.”
