A Binghamton University student is in critical condition and unconscious after an assault and robbery that occurred on November 15.

The unidentified 20-year-old man was at the Ice House Bar on 15 Charlotte St. in the North Side of Binghamton when he was struck in the head with an unknown object and robbed of his belongings. The student was taken to an area hospital and his attacker is still at large.

The victim’s family had originally posted a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or group responsible for the crime. As of December 1, 2015, the Binghamton Police Department and an anonymous donor agreed to match that amount, bringing the total reward to $3,000.

Chief of Police Joseph Zikuski said that the police department is working with the community to bring the offender to justice, and the department has agreed to match the family’s posted reward.

“No community tolerates this type of behavior,” he said in a statement. “It is the mission of the Binghamton Police Department to protect and serve members of our community. In order to accomplish our mission we routinely seek assistance from the public.”

According to Ryan Yarosh, the director of media and public relations at BU, the University is doing all it can to aid in the investigation.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with this member of our Binghamton University family,” Yarosh said in an email. “We are currently working with the Binghamton Police Department to make sure this is resolved as quickly as possible. The safety of our students, both on and off campus, is a top priority.”

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau.

“It is very important to us that we provide closure and justice for the victim and family,” Zikuski said in a statement. “Any assistance from the community will be greatly appreciated.”

The City of Binghamton is planning to send a lockdown warning to to Ice House Bar, the scene of the assault, according to the Press and Sun-Bulletin.

City records list the owner as Eric J. Boyd, and the bar already has approximately 40 lockdown points as the result of previous assaults and fights, according to Binghamton Mayor Rich David. Points are assigned according to the city’s lockdown law, which assigns points to properties and businesses following troubling incidents.

“The Ice House has a history of incidents in the City of Binghamton dating back many, many years,” David said in a statement to the Press and Sun-Bulletin. “Do I get calls from neighbors … or things of that nature? No, I don’t. But I can tell you that it’s a place that the police department is familiar with.”

Boyd has the opportunity to make changes to his business following the lockdown warning, and the city can work with him to correct the issues that warranted the warning. If Boyd does not submit a plan to cooperate, the city will continue in the lockdown process.

The reward for information has been increased to $3,000, and the student has been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit, but remains hospitalized.

UPDATE:

A crowdfunding campaign hosted on Crowdrise listed the victim’s name as Jason Greene. The campaign is raising money that will go towards rewarding anyone that comes forward with information that can lead to an arrest. If no one comes forward, the money will be donated to fund Greene’s rehabilitation and education.
