Binghamton University women’s track and field athlete Sarah Haley was shot at a Greyhound bus terminal in Richmond, Virginia on Thursday afternoon.

According to Ryan Yarosh, BU’s director of media and public relations, Haley was released from the hospital on Friday.

Haley, a junior pole-vaulter, was on her way to the Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William and Mary. According to an NBC News report, the incident occurred after an officer approached a man as a part of a counter drug-training mission for state police. The man then drew a gun and shot the officer at close range and proceeded to open fire in the station.

Haley’s injuries are not life threatening, according to a press release from the University. However, one officer was killed and one other civilian was also injured. The gunman was fatally struck by officers who were on the scene, and died en route to the hospital, according to the report.

The Bearcats are scheduled to compete at the meet beginning on Friday. The University has not announced whether the team’s participation in the meet will continue as scheduled.
