Men’s basketball inks Canadian guard
The Binghamton men’s basketball team has signed 6-foot-2 combo guard Chretien Lukusa from Scarborough, Ontario, to a national letter of intent, the school announced on Jan. 4.
Lukusa, who was born in Zaire, is the captain of his team at Easter Commerce Collegiate School in Toronto, and captained Canada’s junior national team this past summer. His high school team is bidding for its eighth straight Toronto South League championship.
As a junior last season, Lukusa was a regional all-star while averaging 11 points, five rebounds and three assists. He is regarded as one of the strongest players in Canada, and will look to help fill the backcourt void left by graduating senior guards Troy Hailey and Steve Proctor.
Binghamton has two scholarships remaining.
Lacrosse team earns sportsmanship award
The Binghamton University men’s lacrosse team has received the 2006 James Adams Sportsmanship Award from U.S. Lacrosse National Headquarters. Binghamton was cited as having the team and fans which exhibited the best sportsmanship of all of the schools in the Upstate New York District.
The award is presented annually by the U.S. Lacrosse Men’s Division Collegiate Officials Committee to a program which exemplifies the highest standards of class and professionalism. This is the second time in their five-year intercollegiate history that the Bearcats have received the award; the first time was in 2004.
