The most dramatic part of the game was when some kid hit a free throw while sitting in a recliner during a time out. While the game itself proved to be a total joke, the Bearcats showed that they are anything but one.
The Binghamton University women’s basketball team downed Division II Le Moyne College 93-50 in an exhibition game late last night at the Events Center. The game marked the first chance for BU fans to see this year’s squad, and the 1,578 fans in attendance were not disappointed.
From the opening tip which was won by senior Rachel Laws, to the last second three pointer drilled by sophomore Laura Sario, the Bearcats controlled the entire flow of the game. Early on, Le Moyne hurt themselves with bad fouls and shot clock violations, and the Dolphins were clearly overmatched.
Perhaps the most encouraging revelation of this game was the surprising play of the freshmen class, especially center Erin Owens. Owens scored 15 points in 10 minutes and was a mind boggling 7-7 from the floor.
“Erin obviously did an amazing job,” said head coach Rich Conover. “We had a lot of offensive firepower today. We don’t usually score 90 points.”
The Bearcats will wrap up their exhibition schedule against St. Rose on Friday at 7 p.m.
