Welcome to Release, Pipe Dream’s weekly arts/entertainment/lifestyle section. For those of you loyal readers who have perused the pages of Release in the past, you’ve probably noticed the section’s lack of a consistent identity, as it has taken on the distinct personalities of each of its editors over the past several years. Release has been every kind of entertainment section, from a veritable ode to the beer bong to a conservative magazine aimed at vegan violinists — a real soup-to-nuts kind of section. It has moved from Thursday to Friday, from a separate pile next to the distribution rack and back into the paper. As your editor this year, my goal is to develop a section that captures the unique flavor of Binghamton University and, more importantly, acts as a resource for you, the students.
Our goal as a newspaper is to serve as a quick, one-stop resource for Joe SUNY, the average student who flips through Pipe Dream in Lecture Hall while feigning note-taking and dreaming of better days — like Saturday and Sunday. One of our first steps toward reaching this goal is adding a weekly events calendar that will include information about what’s going on both on and off campus all week. We will provide you with information on everything from the art scene to the social scene; advice for surviving one-night stands or surviving final exams; basically anything YOU want to read about. Our goal is to have our proverbial finger on the pulse of BU at all times, but we need your help.
So feel free to email, call or stop by our office in UUW-B03, the basement of the New University Union. Let us know about the interesting things you are doing in your dorm rooms, on Facebook, off campus and at the bars. Send pictures, ideas, suggestions, event information and (most importantly) gossip. And even more important than gossip, keep reading and stay in touch.
Have a great year!
