After getting upset on the road by Boston University two weeks earlier, the men’s tennis team wanted to come out with a strong showing at UMBC on Saturday. But instead, the exact opposite transpired as the Bearcats were defeated 6-1. It was their second straight conference loss.
Binghamton was beaten badly. They lost the doubles point and then five of the six singles matches. Juniors Faisal Mohamed and Alex Dobrin did win their doubles match 8-4, and Dobrin was able to come out on top in a singles match at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2. Mohamed, after losing the first set of his singles match, managed to fight back and force a third set, but he could not come away victorious, losing 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The Bearcats were scheduled to face America East foe Stony Brook on Sunday, but that matchup was postponed due to the weather. Binghamton is scheduled to play three matches this week, two of then scheduled at home ‘ today at 3:30 p.m. against Manhattan and tomorrow at 3:30 p.m against Fairleigh Dickinson. The Bearcats then travel to Bucknell for a Thursday duel, set for 3:30 p.m.
Binghamton is hoping that despite their latest struggles and bad weather conditions, they can find their stride and gain confidence going into the America East tournament at Yale next weekend.
