The Binghamton University Web mail server was down from Sunday evening to Monday around 6 p.m., leaving BU students unable to access their e-mail accounts for approximately 24 hours.

According to Mark V. Reed, associate vice president for computing services, the problem was targeted as a disk controller error, and was repaired by technicians from Sun Microsystems, the supplier.

While Reeds said e-mail problems are always an inconvenience to students and faculty, it is fortunate the problem did not occur during finals week.
