With spring break quickly approaching, many Bearcats are looking forward to leaving the icy winds and sporadic blizzards of Binghamton University behind for a little fun in a tropical locale.
With the safety of their fellow students in mind, a few spring break veterans were willing to share the lessons it took them years, or just a few hours on the beach, to learn.
Whether the itinerary includes Cancun, Florida or Europe, these nine tips, if followed properly, will help keep even the most adventurous travelers out of trouble.
1) Guys: “If a girl wants to have sex with you after the first half hour you meet her, don’t. Anytime after that, it doesn’t matter,” said Alex Zaturenskiy, a sophomore psychobiology major spring break veteran.
2) “Always bring lots of money in case you have to pay off the Mexican police,” said junior accounting major Jay Rachnowitz, while reminiscing about a trip to Cancun with his frat brothers.
3) “Get tested!” advised Amy Jacobs, a junior history major.
4) “Don’t do anything on camera!” warned sophomore Arabic studies major Carmela Rossi, who reluctantly made her big screen debut in the Bahamas.
5) “Bring a camera,” said pre-law senior Jack Bauer in response to the previous tip, as he explained that taping all those spring break mishaps saved him from spending money on the infamous “Girls Gone Wild” videos.
6) “Learn a few new languages,” advised sophomore psychology major Anna Oren, recalling the time her and her friends failed to “hook up” with some French Haitian boys on their trip to the Dominican Republic because of communication problems.
7) “Make sure they have enough challah for Shabbat on March 17,” said sophomore accounting major Yoni Frenkel, explaining that Binghamton’s high population of Jewish students makes this a useful tip.
8) “Beware of the skeevy guys in the Bahamas … it’s like the Rat times ten,” said sophomore economics major Jesse Lazarovic.
