With Halloween just around the corner, many students have their minds on what costume they’re going to wear and what parties they’re going to, but a big part of Halloween is the treats, so why not cook yourself up something tasty this Halloween? Here are a few recipes to try:
Green Grog
Ready in seven minutes.
Ingredients:
– 2 (12 ounce) cans frozen limeade concentrate
– 2 (12 ounce) cans frozen lemonade concentrate
– 2 (two liter) bottles of lemon-lime soda
– 1 (750 milliliter) bottle rum
– 2 quarts lime sherbet
Directions:
In a large pot, combine limeade, lemonade and lemon-lime soda. Stir in rum (add more if desired). Mix in lime sherbet.
Spider Web Brownies
Ready in 50 minutes.
Ingredients:
-4 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate
-3/4 cup butter or margarine
-2 cups sugar
-3 eggs, beaten
-1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-1 cup all-purpose flour
-1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
-1 (7 ounce) jar marshmallow creme
-1 (1 ounce) square semisweet chocolate
Directions:
In a saucepan over low heat, stir unsweetened chocolate and butter until chocolate is melted. Remove from heat; stir in sugar. Cool for 10 minutes. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour and nuts. Pour into a greased foil 13×9-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Immediately drop marshmallow creme by spoonfuls over hot brownies; spread evenly. Cool on a wire rack, lift out of pan, remove foil and place on a serving tray. For web decoration, melt semisweet chocolate and pour into a small re-sealable plastic bag. Cut a small hole in one corner of the bag; drizzle chocolate over creme in spider web design.
Pumpkin Bars
Ready in 40 minutes.
Ingredients:
-4 eggs
-1 2/3 cups sugar
-1 cup vegetable oil
-1 (15 ounce) can solid pack pumpkin
-2 cups all-purpose flour
-2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
-2 teaspoons baking powder
-1 teaspoon baking soda
-1 teaspoon salt
-ICING:
-1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
-2 cups confectioners’ sugar
-1/4 cup butter, softened
-1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-1 tablespoon milk
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs, sugar, oil and pumpkin. Combine flour, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda and salt; gradually add to pumpkin mixture and mix well. Pour into an ungreased 15x10x1-inch baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 25 to 30 minutes. Cool completely.
2. For icing, beat cream cheese, sugar, butter and vanilla in a small mixing bowl. Add enough of the milk to achieve desired spreading consistency. Spread over bars.
