Senior Hasani Hampden dominated the heptathlon, easily taking home the individual crown for the second consecutive year, with 4,910 points — 222 more than his closest competitor — highlighting the Bearcats’ weekend at the America East Indoor Track and Field Championship.
Overall, the men placed fifth and the women sixth out of the nine-team field, but several other individuals took home honors: senior Luke Shafer lept 6-8 to earn the high-jump crown, while freshman Kim Williams qualified for ECAC’s in the 200-meter dash with a first-place time of 24.78.
“Kim Williams was really awesome,” said freshman distance runner Jamie Schulte. “She broke the school record in her freshman year, so that’s pretty impressive.”
Freshman Katie Radzik picked up her second school record of the weekend with a 9:57.33 in the 3,000 m.
“After Katie finished her race, she kept covering her mouth because she was so happy and was smiling so big,” said freshman distance runner Kate Reilly. “She works really hard and I’m really happy for her.”
The event was held at Boston University.
