FRIDAY, Oct. 9, 3:48 p.m. — Patrol responded to a report of a stolen backpack in the East Gym, said Investigator Dennis P. Bush of Binghamton’s New York State University Police. A 19-year-old male student reported that while working out in the gym, he had left his backpack unsecured in a cubby. Upon returning, the backpack and its contents were gone. The contents included a $250 wallet, $100 cash inside the wallet, a $20 cell phone and the $15 backpack. Police have no suspects.
SATURDAY, Oct. 10, 2:16 p.m. — A party of male suspects entered a 19-year-old female student’s dorm in Hinman College’s Cleveland Hall to question her about a brief relationship she had with one of their friends several weeks earlier, Bush said. The victim told the suspects that she had met their friend at a party and they proceeded to question her about it. Although she did not respond, the suspects made conclusions about the encounter from her body language, and proceeded to call their friend. The friend, a 19-year-old male student, arrived at the victim’s dorm, shoved his way in and demanded answers. He did not leave even when the victim repeatedly asked him to do so. He only left the room after the victim grabbed his hat and threw it out the door. A resident assistant arrived to separate the two parties and call the police. When patrol arrived, the suspect admitted that he had harassed the victim, but said that he had only done so because he was angry at her for taking his hat. Police advised him to leave the hall, and prosecution has been declined.
SUNDAY, Oct. 11, 2 p.m. — Several suite occupants in Mountainview College’s Windham Hall reported a case of burglary, Bush said. The previous night, an unknown suspect reportedly entered the room and sprayed the suite with silly string, toilet paper, shaving cream, smashed apples and various other substances. A non-resident of the suite was passed out on the couch at the time, with permission of the residents, yet remained unconscious throughout the entire night, only to awaken covered in silly string. The total damage is estimated at $50. There were no witnesses, and police have no suspects.
SUNDAY, Oct. 11, 3:03 a.m. — A patrolling officer in Newing College saw an 18-year-old male student urinating next to a tree, Bush said. The officer approached the student, who began to walk away, but came back at the officer’s request. The officer then saw a second 18-year-old student doing the same thing some distance away, and although he also tried to leave, he stopped and came back when the officer told him to. Both students admitted that they had been publicly urinating, as they had not been able to hold it in, and apologized. Both were arrested for disorderly conduct and issued a court ticket for 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 22 in Vestal Court.
