FRIDAY, OCT. 13, midnight — Binghamton’s New York State University Police responded to the call of an unresponsive 18-year-old female and found her to be intoxicated; she had been drinking off campus. Harpur’s Ferry student ambulance service responded and took her to Binghamton General Hospital. No charges were filed. Investigator Dennis P. Bush of the Binghamton’s New York State University Police said that University regulations allow police to sometimes “sweep stuff under the rug” so that students are not afraid to call for help if someone is injured or incapacitated as a result of drinking. “We don’t want to turn them off from calling for help,” he said.

Officers discovered that the smell was coming from one particular girls’ suite. Residents allowed police in; the officers then isolated the smell to one particular bedroom within the suite. Both were referred to the campus judicial system for unlawful possession of marijuana. One of the girls was also reported for having a forged ID.
