FRIDAY, Mar. 19, 9:16 p.m. — Patrol spotted nine suspects (eight females and one male) putting blindfolds on nine victims (also eight females and one male) and seating them in the backseats of several cars in the Y1 parking lot by Hunter Hall of Mountainview College, said Investigator Dennis P. Bush of the New York State University Police. Patrol approached and asked what they were doing, but both the suspects and victims were uncooperative to questions. They denied having used blindfolds, but eventually admitted they had upon further questioning. They also denied that this was an event for Greek Life, but later admitted to that as well. When patrol asked if it was for pledging, one of the suspects denied that they intended to blindfold the victims, take their belongings and drive them to a foreign place to find their way back home; they said they were taking them to their sorority to meet their “Big Sisters” and did not want them to know its location. Patrol identified all those present and confirmed them to be members of Greek Life organizations. The suspects were referred to the Office of Greek Life within the Office of Student Conduct.
SATURDAY, Mar. 20, 12:28 p.m. — Faculty from a hall adjacent to Mountainview College’s Hunter Hall reported two students on the roof of the hall, Bush said. Patrol arrived and found the door to the roof locked, but marks on it indicated forced entry. The officer used a key to gain entrance to the roof whereupon one female and one male student, both 19, were found sunbathing on a towel. Patrol identified the two and asked how they had gotten onto the roof. The male claimed that the door had been unlocked, but when the officer asked him to explain the markings the suspect produced a coat hanger and stated that he had used it to open the door after another resident had taught him. Both suspects were arrested and issued appearance tickets to Vestal Town Court on April 8.
SUNDAY, Mar. 21, 1:03 a.m. — A 21-year-old female supervisor in Hillside Community’s Darien Hall made a report to campus police when she heard a 20-year-old male and a 19-year-old female screaming at each other from one of the rooms, Bush said. Patrol arrived and spoke to the male while several officers found the female crying on the floor of another room. The female stated that she had found pictures of other women on her boyfriend’s Facebook page. Hearing an explanation for their presence made her more upset, and after she checked her boyfriend’s call history on his cell phone she became further upset and tried to punch and kick him repeatedly. The screaming began when he tried to restrain her with a bear hug. Officers interviewing the male received the same story. Prosecution was declined, and the female was advised to return to her residence hall.
SUNDAY, Mar. 21, 11:13 p.m. — An 18-year-old female student began receiving texts from an unknown caller on her cell phone beginning on Friday, March 19, Bush said. The texts began innocently, but became more and more sexual as the weekend went on until she reported it on Sunday. The victim claimed to have received between 15 and 20 texts that weekend, and although one of them directed her to a MySpace profile, she did not recognize its owner. She stated that she had not given her number to anyone. Police have no suspects.
