THURSDAY, Mar. 25, 11 p.m. — In Hillside Community’s Evangola Hall, a 20-year-old female student received a call on her cell phone from a blocked number, said Investigator Dennis P. Bush of Binghamton’s New York State University Police Department. The caller, whose voice the victim did not recognize, stated that he heard somewhere that he could get “serviced” if he called her number. The student told the caller not to call back and hung up before calling the police. Police have no suspects.
FRIDAY, Mar. 26, 6:51 a.m. — A 46-year-old male Binghamton University employee reported that his 41-year-old wife, not employed with the University, stole his IRS refund check out of his car parked in the Glenn G. Bartle Library service area, Bush said. The victim stated that the two had been going through a divorce, and his wife felt that she was “entitled to her fair share” of the refund check. Police advised the victim that this was a civil case and should be taken up with a family court. They also advised him to check with the IRS to see if the check had been cashed.
THURSDAY, Apr. 8, 2:14 a.m. — Patrol responded to a report of a marijuana smell in Dickinson Community’s O’Connor Hall, Bush said. A residential assistant had been making the rounds in the building when he noticed a strong odor of marijuana emanating from a ground floor room. Police were called to the scene whereupon they opened the door and identified four separate suspects, all students, as well as an overwhelming marijuana odor. Patrol asked the suspects if they had drugs present, to which one of the suspects replied that they had already smoked all of their weed. However, patrol noticed a glass pipe, blunt wraps and a small baggy of a green, leafy substance in plain view on a suspect’s desk. Upon opening the drawers, police found additional paraphernalia. The suspects were reportedly uncooperative and appeared to be under the influence of marijuana — one arrest was made and the issue will be taken up with the Office of Student Conduct.
