FRIDAY, April 23, 11 a.m. — A female student and a 45-year-old male coach reported harassment at the hands of a non-local male who had been calling the coach repeatedly since April 19, Investigator Dennis P. Bush of the New York State University Police said. The non-local was reportedly concerned about a relationship his daughter was in on campus, and had been calling the coach, asking him to do something about it. Police called the suspect and advised him that students are adults and it is not the coach’s job to deal with this issue. The suspect was told not to call again regarding the matter, and both involved students were informed of the situation.
WEDNESDAY, April 28, Noon — A 20-year-old female student reported that her ex-boyfriend, a 21-year-old male student, had begun a pattern of calling her and sending her unwanted text messages since April 11, Bush said. The victim suspected that their recent breakup was the catalyst for this. Police advised the victim to contact her phone service provider to inquire about the possibility of having the suspect’s number blocked.
THURSDAY, April 29, 1:44 a.m. — A female pizza delivery person flagged down patrol outside of Hillside Community’s Palisades Hall to inform them that she had seen flames on the balcony of the building, Bush said. Officers climbed the stairs to the second floor where they saw that a wooden pillar and part of a railing were indeed on fire. They retrieved a fire extinguisher from one floor above and used it to quell most of the flames, although the rail continued to smolder. The Vestal Fire Department arrived shortly thereafter and put the flames out permanently. Although the officers interviewed all of the residents as they returned to their building, none of them knew anything about how the fire had started. It is possible that the fire was simply a case of negligence, such as a smoker leaving a cigarette butt on the deck.
