STUDENTS TO MEET BU OFFICIALS
On Wednesday, Nov. 1, Binghamton University students will have the chance to meet with some of the school’s administrative officials to ask questions and voice concerns. The officials include Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Mary Ann Swain, Vice President for Student Affairs Rodger Summers and Vice President for Administration James VanVoorst. The “Town Hall Meeting” will be held in UU-133 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
SERIES OF FILMMAKERS SPEAK AT BU
There will be a series of films sponsored by Broome County Arts Council, Harpur College Dean’s Office and Presentation Funds from the Experimental Television Center throughout the month of November. This Thursday, Nov. 2, marks the first, as filmmaker Bill Brown presents “The Other Side,” outlining a journey across the United States/Mexico border and short films at 7:30 p.m. in Lecture Hall 6. Additional presentations include Cathy Crane from Ithaca College on Tuesday, Nov. 14, who will present her film “Unoccupied Zone: The Impossible Life of Simone Weil,” and Zo√É.√ Beloff will hold a presentation with films and 3-D media on Tuesday, Nov. 28, both at the same time and place. The series will be presented by the Department of Cinema.
ISRAELI ROCKSTAR TO PERFORM AT BU
This Thursday, Nov. 2, Ivri Lider will perform in the Mandela Room at 8 p.m. The popular Israeli rock-star, born in 1974, released his first album in 1997 and was awarded the “Best Israeli Music Act” at the Israeli Music Awards Competition in 2000. A few years ago Lider announced that he is homosexual to a popular Israeli newspaper. He has continued to produce hits in Israel, with his most recent album produced in 2005. The concert is hosted by Hillel at Binghamton and Israel at Heart and co-sponsored by the Rainbow Pride Union. Tickets can be purchased for $5 from the Hillel office.
JAZZ GROUP TO PERFORM AT BU
Vanessa Rubin will perform in “Sing Dameron! The Tadd Dameron Vocal Legacy” this Friday, Nov. 3, in a tribute to Dameron, a widely overlooked jazz professional. Both the Harpur Jazz Project and the Binghamton University Music Department are sponsoring the concert. Tickets are available for $7 to students, $13 for faculty, staff and seniors and $15 to the general public. They can be purchased online, at the door or at the Anderson Center Box Office. The concert will be held at the Osterhout Concert Theater in the Fine Arts building.
BOOKS TO BE COLLECTED FOR CHILDREN HURRICANE VICTIMS
New and used books for young children will now be collected in the Bartle Library weekly, and shipped to the Children Defense Fund’s supervisor in New Orleans. The program is co-organized by the Binghamton University Scholars and the CDF. The books will be distributed to children in after-school programs throughout the South once received.
