D.J. Rivera, a senior human development major, joined the Bearcats at the start of the 2008-09 season. Rivera was recruited from St. Joseph’s University where he averaged 5.6 points and 2.0 rebounds in the eight games he played for the Atlantic 10 program during the second semester. With a NCAA hardship waiver, he was allowed to play immediately upon arrival at Binghamton University. During last season’s AE title run, Rivera started in 30 of the 32 games he played and averaged 20 points and 6.5 rebounds a game.

Before attending BU, senior Malik Alvin played for Chipola College in Florida, where he averaged 7.8 points and 3.9 assists for a team that finished seventh in the nation in the NJCAA. While Alvin was at Chipola, which has one of the nation’s top-ranked junior college programs, the team captured the Panhandle Conference and Florida state titles and won three of four games at the NJCAA championship. During his time as a guard for the Bearcats, Alvin, a Philadelphia native, started 21 of the 27 games he played in and scored an average of 11.5 points per game during the season.

David Fine joined the Bearcats in his sophomore year as a walk-on guard and redshirt transfer from Jacksonville University. During his freshman year at Jacksonville, Fine played 25 games averaging about 10 minutes per game and scoring three points per game on .467 shooting. Fine did not see eye-to-eye with his coach in Jacksonville and wanted to transfer to a school closer to his home in Syracuse. As a sophomore transfer, he was required to sit out as a redshirt for the year. During his junior year, Fine was chosen as a second captain, paired with senior Reggie Fuller. For that season, 2008-09, Fine played in 16 games, scoring an average of 0.9 points per game.

The Bearcats received a commitment from Corey Chandler for the 2010-11 season. Chandler, a transfer from Rutgers University, was an All-Rookie in the Big East during the 2007-08 season when he averaged 11.9 points per game. He was suspended for an exhibition game before the beginning of the 2008-09 season, and then dismissed at the end of the year for violating athletic department policy. During his last season at Rutgers, he scored an average of seven points and 1.9 assists per game in the 32 games he played. This past summer Chandler traveled with the East Coast All-Stars on a European Tour. Chandler was redshirted for the upcoming season at BU.

Paul Crosby transferred to the Bearcats team from the University of Michigan. Before Michigan, he was recruited to the University of Toledo out of high school, but did not qualify to attend academically. At Holt High School in Michigan, Crosby averaged 18.4 points, 10.2 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game.
