Bottled anger?

Harvey Bennet, 55, a boat captain from Long Island, released five bottles with messages in them into the ocean in August, according to CNN.com. Last month he was surprised to find that a Briton had found one of his bottles, and had sent him a reply. However his excitement turned to disappointment when he found that the writer of the letter, Henry Biggelsworth of Bournemouth, England, chastised him for littering. Biggelsworth stated in the letter, “You Americans don’t seem to be happy unless you are mucking about somewhere.”

Amster-damn they’re gone!

According to the Associated Press, the city of Amsterdam recently added “No Toking” signs in public places as part of an experimental ban on smoking marijuana in public. The signs however, which depict a cannabis joint releasing specks of smoke that are shaped like marijuana leaves, were almost all stolen soon after they were posted. City officials, recognizing an opportunity, have decided to start selling the signs.

The Associated Press reported Monday that Letikuku Sidumbu, 32, a resident of Goromonzi, Zimbabwe, was attacked by a crocodile in the Mubvinzi river. He was able to escape the crocodile, which had latched onto his right arm, when local villagers formed a human chain and teamed up to pull him free of the crocodile.

According to WFTV of Florida, 40 songbirds died in Austria after flying into windows. The birds were examined by experts who concluded that the birds’ erratic flying was due to the fact that they were drunk from eating fermented berries earlier. Sonja Wehsely, a spokeswoman for Vienna’s veterinary authority, stated that the birds’ livers resembled those of “chronic alcoholics.”

Dale Lanier of Snead, Ala., according to NBC-13 TV, has found a new way to spread his love of the Bible. At the convenience store he owns, patrons get a free cup of coffee or soda if they memorize a passage from the Bible, which he selects monthly. His verse for this month is Psalm 118:8, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.”
