The Bearcats Sports Complex will be scattered with clashing colors of red and green on Tuesday when the Binghamton University’s men’s lacrosse team takes on the Colgate Red Raiders (5-5, 2-2 Patriot League).

The Bearcats (2-5, 0-2 America East) enter the non-conference match on a four-game losing streak after falling to visiting Maryland-Baltimore County 10-5 on Saturday.

The Raiders are in fourth place in the seven-team Patriot league and have won two out of their four conference games, while the Bearcats remain winless in the America East and second to last, in fifth place.

The Raiders bring in a strong attack that’s averaging 8.69 goals and a total of 42 assists this season, while the Bearcats’ offense ranks last in Division I schools, with just 4.14 goals.

“They have a high-powered offense,” BU junior attack Jake Boyce said. “[Colgate is] a strong offensive team but I think we have the edge on defense.”

The man to watch for Colgate in this game will be junior Kevin Colleluori, who has a team-leading .468 shooting percentage, but he is not alone. Colgate senior Matt Lalli leads the team in assists with 10 in 10 games, and top scorer junior Brandon Corp, who has 32 goals this season, will also be hard to stop. Corp recorded a game-high three points in the Red Raiders last match, a 5-3 win over visiting Lehigh on April 5.

Though the Raiders are known for their offense, their defense is also strong. Midfielder Chris Eck has taken up a total of 44 ground balls this season, besting Binghamton junior long-pole John Dreska by 24. Red Raiders sophomore goalie Tim Harrington has 9.16 goals against average.

Boyce, however, said the Bearcats offense is not deterred.

“I think we have a good chance against [Colgate],” Boyce said. “We just got to go out there and just play our game. Clearing is definitely a thing we have to remember to do because it cost us our last game.”

Boyce and fellow junior attacker Chris Mulheron, who has a total of 10 points this season, will lead BU’s offense, while Dreska, senior defenseman Mike Cove and goalie Larry Kline try to create a defensive force field.

This will be the final non-conference game of the season. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m. at the BSC.
