Well, it’s time for basketball season to start, and you know what that means … the annual exhibition loss to a Division II team! It’s so nice of Al Walker and his boys to purposely let St. Rose win every couple of years to build up that poor team’s confidence. You just don’t see kindness like that in the NCAA anymore.
In other basketball news, upon hearing that BU signed two new Serbian players, Albany head coach Will Brown immediately recruited Jack Bauer to play point guard — no one takes care of Serbians quite like Jack Bauer.
Former men’s basketball star Nick Billings apparently made an attempt at a comeback this week, trying out for Binghamton’s women’s team. Head coach Rich Conover had to cut Billings, however, citing the fact that Billings’ hometown of Kodiak, Alaska, is just not foreign enough for his squad.
Congratulations to sophomore men’s soccer player Barry Neville for scoring the game-winning goal in the America East championship. I haven’t seen a performance like that from a Scotsman since William Wallace in 1297. (Or at least since Graham Munro in 2003.)
The men’s soccer team should be happy about its draw in the NCAA tournament this year; at least they didn’t draw Ukraine. I watched the World Cup this summer — the Ukrainians were really good, and Andriy Shevchenko would have created all kinds of matchup problems for the Binghamton back line.
