Have no finals during finals week, but stuck without a ride? Lucked out with only one final to take, but it just happens to fall on the last day of the week? We all know how exciting BU can be with other people around, but now’s your chance to prove you’re OK with being alone and finding ways to entertain yourself, besides masturbating.
Studying should be the first thing that comes to mind, but studying for days straight can be quite a drag. Over the week, while your friends are all being productive members of society, take yourself on a date. Prove to yourself you can see a movie alone, go out to the bars and see the really dedicated drinkers or try any of these other activities.
– Facebook antics for the lonely
Try this Pipe Dream office favorite. Look around the dorms for friends who leave themselves signed on to Facebook during a study break. Johnny might take weeks to notice that his favorite movie has been changed to “Jocks and Cocks 4,” but it will be hilarious and do no lasting harm.
Or, peruse the profiles of old high school friends while no one is looking and make catty comments to yourself that you could never say in front of your roommate. This is also known as the “who’s good looking and better at life game.”
And while you’re at it, why not make a Facebook group called “I have nothing to do all week because I only have one final on the last day.” Invite all your friends who are studying for finals. They’ll love it. It’s a nice way to put yourself out there for some hate mail from stressed peers.
– Rollersomething
Legend has it that the underground level of Lecture Hall is quite the labyrinth and perfect for rollerblading. You’re already going to be doing silly things by yourself, so why not get some exercise and explore some academic buildings by way of your favorite mode of wheeled transportation.
– Develop a must-see addiction
When your female friends gush over McSteamy do you get confused, thinking it’s some kind of shirt-straightening appliance? Maybe it’s time you got caught up in some angsty TV drama. “Lost,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “The Office” and “Veronica Mars” all top the list of “must-see” shows. Also, don’t forget old favorites like “Friends,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Arrested Development.”
You’ve got the time, couch potato it up. Rent or borrow a whole season of DVDs from somebody and go to town. Becoming engrossed in a fictional character’s life is a highly understandable (and totally unproductive) way to spend many hours (and if it’s “Veronica Mars,” you won’t regret it.)
– Making mischief
While everybody is studying, leaving you alone to do your thing, why not have a little fun with them?
Here are some popular library pranks:
– Download the “Gilligan’s Island” theme song as your cell phone ring, leave the phone on a desk in the quiet study room and call yourself from the free phones in the lobby.
– Take photos of people while they’re sleeping.
– Throw some dirty index cards into a dedicated student’s pile when they’re not looking — who knew the capital of Uzbekistan was “ookie cookie?” (Ask a frat pledge if you don’t know what that is.)
– Sit next to somebody and loudly cough/sneeze repeatedly.
– Also, check out the study lounges in the dorms, distract people in there with delicious food they can smell, but cannot have. For example, have a pizza delivered to the Marcy great room.
– Find a new part-time gig
To make up for pranking and annoying your friends, offer to do their laundry or bake them some snacks for a price. There’s no harm in making a little extra cash while you’ve got nothing to do. Pick up a side job or two, just don’t go overboard.
