A box full of money was stolen from the Pappy Parker Players Comedy group during the final act of their show late Sunday night with Boomsplosion and Binghamton University Professor and comedian Ryan Vaughan.

“The money box had been located on a table in the Lecture Hall basement, unattended, unlocked and open,” said Investigator Dennis P. Bush of Binghamton’s New York State University Police.

The box contained $1,485, of which about $550 had been made that night at the show “Comedy Triple Threat,” which sold tickets at $5 a person. Of the money made Sunday night, around $110 would have gone to Vaughan, and $225 each to both Pappy’s and Boomsplosion. The rest of the money in the box had been Pappy’s money for group activities.

“A lot of times we spend it on group trips — we’ve gone to New York City for an alumni gathering show, and we went to a comedy festival in Saratoga,” said Scott Reing, a member of the Pappy Parker Players. “In general the money’s always for the benefit and progress of the group.”

The incident occurred between 9 and 9:45 p.m. The group reported the theft to University police, who checked Lecture Hall security cameras but could not determine any suspects.

“Who knows who’s lurking around the bowels of Lecture Hall on a Sunday night; the box was with the rest of our stuff just outside the doors at the bottom of Lecture Hall 1,” Vaughan said.

The case is still under investigation, although there are no leads at this time.
