The Binghamton men’s golf team opened up its 2006-07 season with a second place finish at the 17-team Colgate Invitational this weekend.

The Bearcats finished three strokes behind tournament champion Bucknell and six strokes ahead of St. Francis, their nearest competitor. Central Connecticut State and Cornell rounded out the top five.

Freshman Patrick Donovan led the Bearcats in his collegiate debut, placing fifth overall out of 85 golfers. Senior Jeff Wolniewicz and junior Zach Vinal tied for seventh overall. Junior J.J. Shearer tied for 20th overall and senior Aaron Ungvarsky tied for 31st.

Binghamton next competes in the Rutgers Invitational this weekend.
