Every so often, Pipe Dream Sports pulls out the big guns, the Golden Pipe, the most prestigious award the staff can give out. This week, two athletes were so exceptional, we figured it was time to pull it out again.
Emanuel “Tiki” Mayben, men’s basketball:
After pouring in a career high of 31 points in the pivotal game against Vermont on Wednesday, Mayben was named one of the America East Players of the Game. He scored 14 of his points in the last 6:17 of the game to help the win. The junior also pulled a game high of seven assists against Maine on Monday. Mayben is fourth in the America East in assists and first in 3-point field goal percentage.
Laura Franceski, women’s basketball:
Franceski receives the Golden Pipe Award for her performance against Maine on Saturday after scoring a season high of 22 points, 11 rebounds and tied the school record with eight blocks. Franceski was two blocks away from becoming the second Bearcat in history to record a triple-double. Still, she managed to tie the school record of eight blocked shots. The senior has 206 career blocks as well as four double-doubles since playing basketball for the Bearcats.
