Tau Kappa Epsilon’s 25th Annual Keg Roll will take place this Friday, as fraternity brothers roll an empty keg from Syracuse to Binghamton University along Route 11.
The fraternity is set to leave Binghamton around 5 a.m. Friday morning and arrive in Syracuse an hour later. The keg will be rolled by one person at a time, and the rolling should be completed 12 hours later, around 5 p.m., as TKE returns to campus. All in all, over 30 people will participate in the event, along with alumni who are expected to attend.
The keg roll is TKE’s yearly charity event, and this year the money raised will be donated to the Lieutenant Lou Allen Fallen Soldiers Fund. The fund is dedicated to Allen, one of TKE’s members, who was killed in active duty in Iraq almost two years ago.
The registered charity in Allen’s name was designed to help support his wife and four children. Last year $10,000 was donated to the foundation.
Donations were raised through alumni and active-brother donations, contributions from local businesses, and a fundraiser held at the Oakdale Mall, among others, said Justin Miller, TKE’s financial vice president.
