Did you miss your fantasy baseball draft? Is Elmer Dessens your starting ace? Did you search through available players for Mo Vaughn? My friend, you need some advice. Suck up that pride. These guys might be available in your leagues. Pick them up before it’s too late.
Fernando Rodney, Detroit Tigers, Closer: This is fantasy baseball and it doesn’t matter if you’ve heard of your players or not. Todd Jones was just placed on the 15-day disabled list and it looks like Rodney will get a few early save opportunities. He was 2-3 in 39 games last season with an impressive 2.86 ERA.
Mike Piazza, San Diego, Catcher: I kid, I kid. But seriously, I love Piazza. Just don’t pick him up yet.
Tim Worrell, San Francisco, Closer: This may be a stretch, but check if Worrell is still available in case you’re playing in a league with a bunch of scrubs. Even though Armando Benitez suffered his first injury of the season a little later than expected, the door is now open for Worrell or relief pitcher Tyler Walker.
Ambiorix Burgos, Kansas City, Closer: I don’t know much about Burgos, but this guy was snagged off waivers in both of my leagues. With Mike MacDougal out for about two months, Burgos probably won’t be available, but it’s worth looking into. I hope that in-depth analysis didn’t blow you out of your seats.
Coco Crisp, Boston, Outfield: I’m trying to find you players with potential who are still available. Crisp batted .300 for Cleveland last season, scored 86 runs and stole 15 bases. Now he’s in an even better position, hitting in front of David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez. Keep an eye on him.
Mike Jacobs, Florida, First Base: The Mets’ rookie sensation made a splash last season with 11 home runs in 30 games. Batting behind Miguel Cabrera probably won’t hurt his numbers.
