The “Who Rules?” trivia game, which “tests your smarts to prove how little you really know” is an entertaining way to spend about 20 minutes of your time with friends.
If using the game on your TV instead of on a computer, you can use the buttons on your remote control to navigate the game. “Who Rules?” is ridiculously easy to understand. You spin the “game spinner” and it will automatically select one out of seven categories, including tail gater, political asylum and culture shock. You then choose a question from the selected subject. The tail gater category is particularly amusing as it has you try to figure out which pop culture persona would most likely use the humorous license plate you see displayed on the screen.
For every question answered correctly, you receive a bizarre prize, ranging from a pair of moccasins to a red wagon. These questions, which were both easy and difficult, were in no particular order of complexity. They essentially aim to test your knowledge of pop culture. The first game play only took 15 minutes, and while all the questions were different, it was a little lame that all the prizes remained the same, and were awarded in the same order.
The game show narrator was an entertaining character with a sarcastic comment on hand for every question you got a question wrong, but he could get annoying when combined with the game’s oddball background sound effects.
What took away from the enjoyment of the game the most however, was a lack of serious competition. There are no higher levels, and only winning or losing are options. And even worse, there is no tiebreaker! Nobody wants a tie, we know that someone has to dominate or it’s just not a real game.
Bottom Line: This game is entertaining for the 15 minutes it lasts, but may not be competitive enough for all of our inner warrior instincts.
