They were grilled by the Griffins, bucked by the Bisons and clawed by the Catamounts. On Wednesday the Binghamton women’s lacrosse team had its losing streak extended to four matches as it was pillaged by the Colgate Raiders, 13-6.
Similar to their previous game against Vermont, the Bearcats came out strong and kept up with the Raiders for much of the first half. Lis Zuern put in her 11th goal of the season to take the lead two minutes into the game. Colgate responded with a goal of its own to tie the game, only to have it broken four minutes later by a goal by Ali Castiglie to make the score 2-1.
Colgate tied up the game with a goal by Raider Brie Moran with less than 20 minutes on the clock. The Bearcats started to fall back two minutes later after another Colgate goal by Colleen Bubnack to make the score 3-2.
And the Raiders never looked back.
After a third consecutive Colgate goal, Binghamton attempted to close in on the team with a goal by Lisa Illig assisted by Castiglie to bring the score to 4-3. It would be the Bearcats’ last goal of the half.
By the end of the first half, Colgate led the game 8-3.
The Raiders continued to widen the gap during the second. The team put in two goals before the Bearcats could answer back and put the score at 10-4. Colgate went on a 3-1 run and scored its last goal with about 12 minutes remaining in the match to set the score 13-5. The Bearcats could only get as close as seven points with the Raiders as Kaitlyn Concialdi put in her eighth and the match’s last goal of the season with 4:09 remaining.
Raiders’ Courtney Miller dominated the match with four points while Bubnack had five assists and two goals. Colgate had a total of seven assists and 29 ground balls while the Bearcats could only muster three assists and 17 ground balls. Binghamton also had 29 turnovers.
Perhaps a trip to the south will be able to reverse the Bearcats’ unlucky streak as the team heads down to Nashville to play against Vanderbilt Saturday.
