While the rest of us were away over the summer, Binghamton University athletics continued to move forward. Here’s a rundown of everything you may have missed.

Baseball: The team entered the America East Tournament as the top seed, but lost two of three games to fall short of repeating as conference champions. Members of the team had earned America East Player of the Year (Corey Taylor), Pitcher of the Year (James Giulietti) and Coach of the Year (Tim Sinicki). Outfielder Henry Dunn was drafted in the 50th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Cleveland Indians. Meanwhile, former Bearcat Scott Diamond sports a 2.91 ERA for the Atlanta Braves’ AAA affiliate.

Men’s Basketball: Ron Brown, formerly of Fairleigh Dickinson University, and Julius Smith, formerly of the University of the District of Columbia, joined the men’s basketball staff as assistant coaches.

Women’s Basketball: The team added former Bearcat Sarah Cartmill as an assistant coach. She has the second-most points in team history.

Golf: Jake Katz was named both America Sky Conference Player and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He then finished one stroke behind the leader to earn second place at the New York State Men’s Amateur Championship. He also finished in the top 10 at the Porter Cup, an event that Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson each played in during their amateur years.

Men’s Soccer: Joe Dorini, formerly of West Virginia Tech, and Matt Narode, a former Bearcat, were hired as assistant coaches.

Men’s Tennis: After losing in the first round of the NCAA tournament, men’s tennis finished the year as the No. 49 team in the nation. Sven Vloedgraven ended the year ranked as the No. 2 player in the Northeast and the No. 115 player in the nation.

Women’s tennis: Head coach Mike Stevens was signed as head coach of the women’s tennis team at Cornell University. He had been head coach at Binghamton since 2003. The Bearcats hired former men’s tennis assistant coach Libby McGovern to take his place.

Wrestling: Jasen Borshoff, a former NCAA qualifier for American University, was added as an assistant coach.
