The New York Mets, in conjunction with Time Warner Cable, will be launching SportsNet New York (SNY) on Thursday, March 16 in the Tri-State area. A regional sports network designed similarly to the New York Yankees’ YES Network, SNY will carry 125 Mets games per season, as well as provide New York Jets, Big-10, and Big East coverage, along with three daily sports news shows with an emphasis on local teams.

Unfortunately for Mets, Jets and NCAA fans at Binghamton, “there are no plans to add SNY to the campus cable lineup at this time,” according to Jennifer Bishop of Campus Telecommunications.

But there is still hope for sports fans about to be left in the dark. If you would like to be able to watch SportsNet New York on campus, contact the president of your community (e.g. the president of Dickinson or Hinman — not your specific hall’s president) and tell him or her that you want SportsNet New York added to the cable lineup. Instruct your community president to present the request to the Dormitory Income Fund Reimbursable (DIFR) committee, the group that determines how University funds and resources are allocated, which will ultimately decide if SNY will be picked up on campus. The more people request SNY, the more likely the network will be carried on campus.

Whether SNY would replace an existing station or occupy a vacant channel is also at the discretion of the DIFR committee.
