With new men’s basketball coach Kevin Broadus out on the recruiting trail, reports are that Binghamton has secured its second recruit for the 2007-08 year, the first who has agreed to come to BU under Broadus’ watch.

According to rivals.com, Devon McBride, a combo guard who played at the Hill School, a private college prep boarding school in Pottstown, Pa., and then played this year at Phoenixville Area High School in Pennsylvania, has signed a national letter of intent to come play for the Bearcats next year.

McBride, at 6-foot-4 and 185 pounds, would be one of the taller guards in the America East, and depending on which role he suits best in Broadus’ system, he could prove to be the heir to Mike Gordon’s throne as floor general for the Bearcats.

Several notable schools were looking at McBride while he was at the Hill School. Those schools included Duquesne, Penn State, St. Bonaventure and, perhaps not coincidentally, Georgetown, where Broadus came from a few weeks ago.

One of Binghamton’s biggest selling points on Broadus was his strong recruiting. Time will only tell how that plays out, but it is clear he is focused on bringing in talent from high school.

Binghamton remains in the mix for several other players, including small forward Remy Cofield of West Roxbury, Mass., and power forward Mike Davis, a three-star prospect from Virginia who has seen interest from Maryland, Texas and Virginia Tech. According to rivals.com, Davis is expected to visit Binghamton.

Turkish forward Mehmet Sahan, who was expected to join the Bearcats last season before deciding to attend prep school in New Hampshire, is not expected to be a candidate.
