AIDS awareness group to hold free HIV testing event
The AIDS Prevention, Awareness and Care organization will host a free campus-wide HIV testing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, in room 324 of the New University Union. APAC is currently looking for volunteers to help out on the day of the event. Those who are interested in helping out or would like more information should e-mail kmarche1@binghamton.edu.
Indian Performing Arts Society to hold dance performance
The Indian Performing Arts Society will work in conjunction with the Music Department as they present an evening of classical dance from India at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, in the Old University Union Mandela Room. The dance troupe Nritya Sangam brings together two distinct regional dance styles: one from southern and one from northern India. Dancers Shambhavi Vaze and Parimal Phadke will explore the contrasts and similarities between the two styles in this play of musical disciplines (Hindustani and Carnatic) and dance. Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for students and are available at the door.
Off Campus College to hold charity picnic
The first annual ‘Festivus: A Charity Event’ will be held this Sunday in Recreation Park on Beethoven Street at Seminary Avenue in Binghamton. All proceeds will be donated to the Broome County Urban League after school enrichment program. There will be live music, a kosher barbeque and sporting events open to BU students only, including basketball tournaments, beach volleyball and a tennis tournament. There will be a $6 fee for all tournament participants, which includes a T-shirt, a raffle ticket and tickets for food and beverages.
Spring Fling this Saturday
BU’s annual Spring Fling festival will begin this Saturday at noon outside Glenn G. Bartle Library and last until 5 p.m. There will be free food, carnival rides, games, prizes and the band Reel Big Fish will be giving a free performance. The event is co-sponsored by the Student Association and the Office of Campus Life.
Town Hall meetings to be held
There will be a Town Hall meeting on Tuesday, May 1, concerning the renovations to Newing College and Dickinson Community in room 133 of the Old University Union at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. On May 2, there will be a meeting on the revamping of the Old Union and another on May 8 regarding the East Gym renovations; both will be held at 4 p.m. and repeated later at 7 p.m.
BU looking for student models
Undergraduate Admissions and the office of University Communications and Marketing are recruiting student models for photo shoots, video shoots and other projects. Interested students should come to the Lecture Hall basement, room B-71 either tomorrow or Thursday between 2 and 4 p.m. to sign into the registry and have a head shot taken. DeFleur holds open hours
President Lois B. DeFleur will hold open office hours this Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. DeFleur’s office is located on the eighth floor of the Couper Administration Building.
Virginia Tech banner to be signed today
Students will have the opportunity to sign a banner for the students of Virginia Tech today from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the New University Union. Model U.N. will have a table for students to write their wishes and thoughts. The banner will be sent to Virginia Tech on Wednesday.
Newing ball to be held
This Thursday, Newing College will hold its first ever Black and White Ball, starting at 8 p.m. in the Old Union Hall. The event is free for all and there will be food and music. The ball is sponsored by Sodexho and Late Night Binghamton. Proper attire is requested.
