Malcolm X
In celebration of Black History Month, the Muslim Student Association is inviting Mr. Ramadhan, a local teacher who met Malcolm X, to share his experience and talk about Malcolm’s life. The event will be held at 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 24, in the Old University Union West Lounge. Refreshments will be provided.
Purim Carnival to benefit children
The annual Purim Carnival will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, in the East Gym. The carnival is open to the public and features a wide array of game booths, rides, attractions, music and food, including unlimited free humentashen (jelly-filled cookies). A $2 admission fee includes five carnival tickets; $5 admission fee includes all of the rides and attractions. For more information call the Chabad House at 797-0015.
Cell Phone Drive
Binghamton Women’s Rugby Club, in conjunction with Campus Recreational Services, will be holding a cell phone drive until the end of the spring semester in May. Old cell phones, along with their chargers, will be collected by the club and donated to the SOS Shelter for Battered Women. Please drop off cell phones with their chargers in the lobby of the East Gym. — The Chorale and Women’s Chorus will perform a free concert on Thursday, March 9 at 8 p.m. in Anderson Center Chamber Hall.
— Binghamton University’s first spring midday concert is on Thursday, March 2 at 1:20 p.m. in Casadesus Recital Hall. The concert is free for all and is the first of the series of midday concerts that will be held every Thursday from March 2 through May 11 while classes are in session, as well as two additional on Tuesday, March 21 and Tuesday May 2.
— A Big Band Jazz Concert, the New York-Binghamton Connection, is having a concert on Thursday, March 30 at 8 p.m. in Osterhout Concert Theater. Tickets are $14 general public, $12 faculty/staff/seniors and $6 students. — Mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of influential and controversial Soviet composer Dmitri Shostakovich, on Friday, March 24 with the Russian Voices: Protest and Homage concert at 8 p.m. in Casadesus Recital Hall. Concert tickets are $9 general public, $7 faculty/staff/seniors and free for students.
— Binghamton University Wind Ensemble will present a concert of “Cornerstones” on Sunday, March 5 at 3 p.m. in the Anderson Center Chamber Hall. The concert is free of charge.
