A BU freshman died last night after what witnesses say may have been an injury from a consensual boxing match in College-in-the-Woods’s Mohawk Hall, officials said.

Police received a 911 call at 10:51 p.m. reporting an injured student at the dorm. Harpur’s Ferry Ambulance responded and rushed Anders Uwadinobi, 18, of the Bronx, to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to witnesses, Uwadinobi was boxing in the dorm and the death may have been accidental. He was wearing gloves and headgear.

University police are investigating the incident and awaiting the results of an autopsy.

The University has been in contact with the student’s parents. President Lois B. DeFleur said she was saddened by the incident. University counselors have been working with those affected.
