On Saturday the Binghamton University women’s basketball team will attempt to do what the men’s team could not ‘ overcome St. Bonaventure.

The Bearcats (0-1) and the Bonnies (3-0) meet at a neutral site, the Elmira BC Arena, at 4 p.m. Binghamton’s season-opening loss to Portland State last Saturday did not shake the spirit of the team; however, it did let them know where they needed to improve.

The Bonnies defeated Binghamton’s America East rival Albany 64-62 in its most recent win at home on Tuesday.

Bearcats head coach Rich Conover will rely on consistency, strong defense and the upperclassmen to carry the Bearcats to their first win of the season.

Dana Mitchell poses a possible threat for the Bearcats, as the Bonnie registered her third straight double-digit effort of the season against Albany. Included with her are freshman Armelia Horton and junior Erica Schiefen, who set career highs on Tuesday with 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Although the team from Olean is reaching new heights, the Bonnies seem to have the same problem as the Bearcats: being consistent. In the last game, St. Bonaventure blew a 15-point lead against the Great Danes in the second half, but still pulled out the narrow win.

The game starts at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Elmira BC Arena. The team will then travel to Buffalo to face Canisius on Tuesday.

Elmira is just an hour down Route 17, so if any fans are in the area, be sure to check out the Bearcats.
