With its win over Stony Brook on Saturday, the Binghamton men’s soccer team clinched a top-four seed for the America East playoffs, which begin Oct. 28.
With two games remaining in the regular season, there is time for the standings to be altered, but here is how the conference is currently shaping up: Vermont and Albany, in first and second place, will receive first-round byes, while the fourth through sixth seeds — currently Binghamton, New Hampshire, Boston University and Hartford — play each other in the opening round, hosted by the higher seed.
The seventh- through ninth-place teams, Stony Brook, UMBC and Maine, will miss the playoffs. The only team that has been officially eliminated is Maine, which has lost all 15 games it’s played this season.
There is a chance for Binghamton to receive the No. 1 seed in the conference, but the Bearcats must win their final two games for that to happen. This would ensure home field throughout the AE tournament.
